Default Emma Duckhouse born abt. 1851 in Stafford

    Hi there,

I have been trying to find out more about my great great great Grandmothers family - brothers / sisters parents but at the moment I cannot even find a birth record that looks correct.

    Things I think I know:

She married Frederick Powell in Christ Church, Crewe, Cheshire, England on 28 Mar 1870

On census' as a married woman she is listed as being born in 1851 in Stafford, Staffordshire

Her marriage record shows her fathers name to be Daniel Duckhouse and I do believe that her mother was a Rachel Edwards (I found them on 1851 census) and on the 1861 census Emma is living eith

But there doesn't seem to be a birth record that fits nor can I find a marriage for her parents. I wondered if anyone had any tips on where to go from here

    Thanks in advance

    From the GRO site

Emma Duckas Dec 1850 Stafford 17 139 mmn Corns

    Marriage from FreeBMD

    Daniel Duckis/Rachel Corns Sep 1849 Stafford 17 145

Why do you think that Rachel's maiden name was Edwards?

(I found them on 1851 census) and on the 1861 census Emma is living eith
I don't see Emma with them in 1861.

Ah brilliant! There are so many variations on the spelling of this name! Even seen it as duckers too! I thought her maiden name was Edwards because on the 1861 census Emma is living with her Grandfather and his surname was Edwards

Thanks Alma, I had found Emma on the 1861 census living with her Grandfather or so it says a Thomas Edwards

I'm wondering who Fanny is? The 1861 has her as a daughter age 15 so born about 1846, I can't find her birth in Stafford under either Duck* or Corn*

Please can you provide more details, the census reference, where they are living and details of Thomas Edwards - his age in 1861, where he was born and occupation, is there anyone else in the household.

OK, I've found the 1861 census

    1861, Monks Coppenhall Cheshire. RG 9; Piece: 2616; Folio: 21; Page: 35
    Mary Edwards, head, 75, Penkridge
    Thomas Edwards, son, 30, Penkridge
    Emma Duchouse, grandau, 10, Stafford

We know Rachael's father was John from her marriage #3

As Mary Edwards is Emma's grandmother she must be Rachael's mother who could have remarried to a Mr Edwards.

Rachel Corn christened 25th July 1825 Penkridge Staffs, parents John Corn and Mary.

    This census is confusing

    1871, Coppenhall Monks Cheshire. RG10; Piece: 3710; Folio: 37; Page: 16;
    Thomas Edwards 45, Penkridge
Lydia Edwards 43, wife, Bury Lancs
    Mary Edwards 60, grandmother? Penkridge
Thomas V Broomer 23, boarder, Liverpool
William Broomer 11, son, Badley Cheshire
    Arthur E Broomer 9, Crewe
    Ernest E Broomer 1, Crewe

The birth years are different but must be the same people.

    1881, Monks Coppenhall, RG11; Piece: 3542; Folio: 130; Page: 33;
    Thomas Edwards 52, Penkridge
    Lydia Edwards 57, Worcestershire
William Broomer 23, son of wife, Badderley Cheshire
Arthur E. Broomer 17, son of wife, Crewe
Ernest E. Broomer 13, son of wife, Crewe
Robert S. Williams 39, lodger, Staffs

I was hoping to find a marriage for Thomas and Lydia but had no luck, a pity as we may have learned who Thomas' father is,

This is the only marriage I've found for a Lydia Broomer
Dec 27th 1870 St Mary Stafford.
William Corns, 40, bachelor, labourer, address Broad Eye, father John Corns a labourer
Lydia Broomer, 46, spinster, add. Broad Eye, father John Broomer an architect.

A Thomas Corns born Penkridge 1823 was living 26 Broad Eye in 1871, he's with wife Margaret and various other family members. I think he's the son of John and Mary, so Rachel's brother.

Thomas Corns christened 30th March 1823, Penkridge, parents John and Mary Corns
