There is an entry on the 1841 census for James Heard. B abt 1836. in Devon. With Sophia Heard b abt 1811 and Walter Heard b 1838. The Civil Parish is Shobroke, West Budleigh, Devon. Where is Coalrick? Google maps can't seem to find it!
Do you think you may have relatives in Victoria, Australia?

I have seen this one and think it quite possible as Sophia is matron of some sort of school. I wonder if this might be like a workhouse as there doesn't seem to be a school mentioned in the near census entries.
Yes there are some extended family in Australia.Thank you for replying.

Ann
I know of someone in Victoria whose maiden name was Heard. Her family lived in Plenty, Victoria. They bought land and built a house and their road was named Heard Avenue. We stayed with them and visited them regularly.
I wonder if they are related to your family.
