I have allegedly checked Ancestry, Findmypast, FamilySearch, and FreeREG, with no success.

When you transcribe from a parish register/census image/whatever, do you transcribe the name as spelt in the record, or do you transcribe into the most common form of the name? (e.g. if the name was spelt Rebbeca in an image would you enter it into your records as that, or enter it as Rebecca?) I'm thinking of possible misspellings of Harpin, or if it could even have been spelt Harbin in the register. A difference that a 'variants' option might not pick up.

If you search for her on Familysearch (and elsewhere) as Joan Arpin you should find the record you're looking for. Parents Jonathan & Sara

That, to my mind, is an amazing bit of detective work, Jomot1.

Whilst searching for the baptism I came across this burial

Jane Arpin 11 September 1741 Westbury.

Both images (baptism and burial) on fmp.

    That nicely muddies the waters.
Is she the Joan Arpin baptised in 1717, who dies a spinster? Or is she a Jane who married into the Harpin family?

Unfortunatley all the entry gives is the name and date. Having found it I couldn't not mention it, even if it is discounted later.

I didn't expect you to give a definitive answer to my rhetorical question.

As you say, all you can do is report what you've found for further consideration.
