Almach, hi : that's pretty amazing. It's spelled 'Layenby' but close enough to be seriously of interest. I note that head-of-the-house John was born at Hull, a place I keep coming up against even tho' pornographer William was born in Suffolk. It maybe another branch of the family. The name Lazenby seems more strongly represented in the N. of England than down south. Again my thanks.

Thanks. Sounds as tho it is nearby. I do think he could possibly be Louisa Lazenby's older brother. He is with the family in St Bride's in 1851, married, wife not present. I think he married Elizabeth Draker in 1850. In 1851 she is Betsey Draker, married, with family in Southwark.

And, at #26 I mention Arthur, Louisa's son, is living in Charles Lazenby's household in 1911. Charles, I think, is John Lazenby's son.
I'm as certain as I can be that Louisa was born Lazenby, and William Ashford, there's so much which points to this being the case.Alma

Yes lots of convincing circumstantial evidence. We may never know if Henry/William is also father to Arthur, or why Louisa chose to give Hall as a maiden name. But it has been quite fascinating! I wonder what happened to Henry/William in the end... He apparently had to move to Paris to carry on publishing, so perhaps he died abroad.

Grisel, I too think William/Henry could have died abroad and for the reason you give.
Louisa giving HALL as a maiden name is puzzling, perhaps it's a 'play' on Hull where her family was from, maybe she liked the name or knew someone called Hall. As you said we may never know.Alma

I don't think this has been mentioned but the thread is very long and it's easy to miss some posts.
Louisa is on a few records in early 1900's from Ancestry's "London, England, Workhouse Admission and Discharge Records, 1764-1930"
A couple of them mention her daughter Louisa Westman of 42, Great Pulteney St, in 1901 Carl Wessman and children are at that address, he's a widow age 45 born Sweden.
In 1911 he's 53 born Sweden, address: 25, Albany St Regents Park. His 'wife' has been transcribed by Ancestry as Laura but looking at the address filled in by his wife, it's definitely signed Louisa. Louisa says she's been married 9yrs however I haven't found a marriage.
Oh dear, more headaches!Alma
