I am researching for a friend and am trying to find a war memorial that shows her grandfather who was killed in WW1 on 30th March 1918.
He was born in Gadlass, Shropshire. Registered in Ellesmere.
In 1901 he was living in Ellesmere and married in 1910. However in 1918 his wife was living in Welshpool.
His name was Herbert Bowen.
Can anyone help with where to look?

Couple of sites for you to try.
https://www.roll-of-honour.com/index.html
https://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/sea...aign=wmalaunch
Possibly this one
https://www.warmemorials.org/
Have you tried using a search engine for something like 'Welshpool WW1 memorial'.
Do you know where any children were born? My thinking being that if a child was born in Ellesmere in 1917 then Herbert is more likely to commemorated in Ellesmere. But if the family were living in Welshpool in 1913, then he's more likely to be on the Welshpool one.
You could also try the parish pages in the relevant counties on Genuki.

Just checked the CWGC site. Noticed it says Herbert's parents lived in Whitchurch. Was he born there? Might be another place to look.

if you search for his medal, an auction house lists it, along with a short biography. One of the things mentioned is that "He took a keen interest in religious work, was a valued member of the [Welshpool] Primitive Methodist chapel and for several years had been on of its most zealous lay preachers.". There are other search references to "Welshpool Methodist War Memorial", although I have yet find a list of the Fallen, or even if it still exists. You could also try the Welshpool and District Royal British Legion.

To help anyone looking further, the man who died on 30.03.1918 was 20962 Private Herbert Bowen of the 2 Btn Coldstream Guards. He is buried at the Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux. If you go to the CWGC site they have info about, and a photo of the cemetery HERE.

Is it my imagination, or is there a Guards Memorial? I seem to remember it being mentioned on Armistice Day...
Judging by the memorials in my OPs, people went onto the memorial the next of kin asked for. There’s twin brothers in my system who had never been near the Parish, but whose parents moved to a farm there after the first of them was killed.
PS Well done, Grisel.
