I am trying to trace the Brooks family tree from Yeovil.
I have Charles Brooks (1794) (5 generations Great great great grandfather) unknown wife
His Son John Brooks (1829) who married a Jane Sudry
Their daughter Louisa Jane Brooks (birth unknown) married a Charles Hembrey
Their Daughter Amy Millicent Hembrey (1890) (my Grandmother)
Please if anyone can help me with additional family, spouses, dates etc. it would be greatly appreciated
Many Thanks

1881 census shows
58 Reckleford (?) Yeovil.
John Brooks b. abt 1829, Yeovil - Glove Cutter
Jane b. abt 1835 Compton, Dorset
Jane (daughter) b abt 1862 Yeovil
Bessie M b. abt 1873 Yeovil
Louisa J b abt 1874 Yeovil
Eliz V b. abt 1876 Yeovil
William J. Grandson
Free BMD shows birth reg. of Louisa Jane Brooks: Yeovil 1874 June quarter
If this is your family Louise could not have married Charles Hembury, as that marriage is registered in 1876.

Hi Rob,
I presume you've traced the family back via the usual route of birth, marriage, and death certificates to 1837, and the censuses to 1841, and then based on birthplaces in the censuses, via parish registers. So it would be a complete waste of anyone's time to tell you all that. (Although it looks as if you're having trouble with Louisa Jane Brooks birth - is that because you can't find a birth registration?)
It's much better to say exactly what you have (e.g. when and where John Brooks married Jane Sudry) and which census you've found them on with Louisa (e.g. in 1871, they were living in Constantinople with Louisa aged 5, census reference RG10/789 folio 3456 page 10) and then ask a specific question about a person. e.g. Louisa might have a brother in that census for whom you can't find any further details in spite of looking in xyz records.
ADDED: suemalings is already on the case while I was slowly typing.

Where was Amy Millicent born?
The only Amy (any, or no, middle name) Hembrey (or variant) birth registration in England or Wales 1870-1900 is for an Amy Ethel Hembrey, registered June quarter 1891, Chelsea registration district.
Ah, five minutes and two more websites later, found her.
Amy Millicent Hembery (so different spelling of surname), birth registeation June quarter 1891, Christchurch registration district. Mother's maiden name Brooks.
Who's misspelt Hembery - you or the GRO Index?

How certain are you of the 1794 date for Charles? I'm asking because I have found a baptism in Yeovil for a Charles Brook 23 December 1798, parents Thomas and Mary.
Charles Brooks married Rebecca Hull at Yeovil St John 19 February 1826 and I can find the following baptisms, all in Yeovil with parents Charles and Rebecca
Maria Brooks 21 April 1826
John Brook 11 May 1828
William Brooks 10 December 1830
In the 1841 Census the family are living in Yeovil ref HO107/958/9/F29/p4
1851 Charles, Rebecca, Maria and William are still in Yeovil refr HO107 1930/F242/p8
1861 Charles is a widower living in Yeovil with son John and wife Mary J. ref RG09/1644/F62/p28
Deaths
Rebecca Brooks Mar 1860 Yeovil vol 5c p406 age 75
Charles Brooks Dec 1869 Wells vol 5c p395 age 71

Following my message #4, Amy in the 1901 census.
Living in Bournemouth (Hampshire), census reference RG13/1043 folio 5 page 2.
Charles Hembery, 46, house slater, born Shirley, Southampton
Louisa J, 45, Lymington
Charles L, 22, Freemantle, Hampshire ( my note, no such parish exists, they might have meant Freefolk)
Cecile L, 21,
Ethel M, 17
Florence M, 17
Hilda, 11,
Amy M, 10,
Doris E, 8
Gladys K, 5
Cecile and all the younger children born Bournemouth.
That would fit very nicely with the 1876 marriage suemalings found. Louisa Jane Brooks marrying Charles Hembery/Hembury, Southampton registration district.
1861 census reference RG9/663 folio 9 page 11
Living in Lymington
George Brooks, 24, born Lymington, wife Jane, 30, born Cornwall.
Various children including on next page, Louisa, aged 5, born Lymington.
Lymington is quite a way from Yeovil - about 68 miles on modern roads, probably a bit shorter by horse and cart on the back roads, but there's nothing to link that family to Yeovil. So I have to draw the conclusion that you've either got the wrong granny, or else right granny but wrong great-grandparents.
ADDED: Must improve my typing speeds, as almach beat me this time.
