    Apologies for any confusion - William Hallam's birthplace on the '51 Census was "Arnold, Notts" - as reflected in the baptismal record..

    Next door is another Hallam family, and the Head, Henry Hallam, 35, Framework Knitter was born East Leake - which is also the birth place of William's father John Hallam.

    Will check for possible connection.

    These are counties which are either adjacent to one another or very close to one another.

    A site that you will find very useful is GENUKI:

    Hopefully that link will take you to a nice colourful map of England showing the various counties, with their names abbreviated.
    Nottingham is NTH; Warwichshire is WAR and Staffordshire is STS.

    Insert "Arnold" into the place name serach and it will helpfully bring up a number of possibilities in England including one in Nottinghamshire:

    John Hallam, 3 Apr 1816, bap place Costock, Church St. Giles, parents Henry and Ann, residence Costock. However, there is a 2nd transcription record for John Hallam, bap 3 April 1816 - it states "died 28 Feb 1825"
