This man is mis-filed as MARLER in the WW1 Service Records (WO 363):

William David MAILER joined the Queens (W Surrey) Regiment in Mar 1916, declared age 40y 6m. He was a Drapery Salesman, living in Tottenham, London.
Mother ANNIE lived in Blairgowrie, Perthshire - which is where he went on discharge in 1919.

Birthplace not stated - Scotland? or possibly Q3 1875, Hayfield?
Served as Pte 8639 (Queens), 86705 (Labour) & 80305 (RDC).

According to a tree on ancestry he was born 25 September 1876 at Blairgowrie, Perthshire, and died 1941 Worthing Norfolk age 64.
Parents John keltie Mailer and Annie Ayson.

Not the one born 1875 Hayfield as he married a Margaret Crawford and in 1911 is in Derbyshire with her and their son Andrew Crawford Mailer age 6. His father was an Andrew Mailer, his mother Josephine Butcher. This William D Mailer died in Cheshire 1944 as per probate of his will.

There's a birth for him on Scotlands People. B: 1876 in Blairgowrie.

He's in the 1881 census as William D Mailer, visiting Blairgowrie with his parents John (ironmonger, b abt 1849, Dunkeld) & Ann (b. abt 1851 in Blairgowrie). Is also Frederick WD Mailer (b. abt 1879 Greenfield Lanark)

Name varies between Mailer & Mailor.

By the 1891, WD is a tea merchant's apprentice, living in Blairgowrie and with one extra brother, Charles Hardie M aged 10.
In 1913 he's a tenant & occupant of a wine shop in Perth, resident in Auchterarder, Perthshire.

There's at least 1 english WDM: in the 1901 he gives his birthplace as Glossop in Derbyshire abt 1876, he's a (illegible) filler..

Fullscot is working her way through WW1 records and, when she finds people who have been mis-filed, lists them on our strays page to make it possible for family to find them.
