UK Naturalisation Certificate
Jules Gustavus Charles Mason, an alien now residing at Newcastle on Tyne, has presented to me, the Right Hon. Henry Austin Bruce, one of Her Majesty's principal Secretaries of State, a memorial praying for a Certificate of Naturalization, and alleging that he is a Frenchman, aged thirty-one, a merchant, married, and has four children residing with him, namely
Amelia aged 7 years
Cecile aged 4 years
Regina Isabella aged 1½ years
Nathalia aged 7 weeks
and that in the period of eight years preceding his application he has resided within the United Kingdom........

You can get Regina's birth certificate if you don't already have it from https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/c...cates/menu.asp, but the index here says that her mother's maiden name was Lotinga. Did she then marry a relation?

I cannot find Jules in the 1901 Census although Sarah is there, living in Paddington with daughter Amelie and son in law Morris Barrett. The entry states that she is married. In 1911 she is still with Amelie and family in Willesden and is a Widow. At a guess the Jules Mason death you have found is probably your man.
Do you have the 1862 marriage certificate. If not the GRO ref is Sep 1862 Sunderland 10a 583.

I have merged your two threads to avoid any duplication of effort. It is always better to add to an existing thread if you can. I have also changed the title to reflect both people you are looking for - it can always be changed again if you wish.

The 1861 census for 24 York Street, Glasgow, Scotland has a Jules Mason, aged 23, born France, dealer in precious stones. He is billed as a lodger, as is a Henry Mason, widower, 56 born Prussia. Confusingly there also appears to be a "lodger's wife" named Jeanette Mason aged 17? but also born Prussia.
