I also came across this article on findmypast Periodical Source Index a few days ago and as a result I emailed the Nottinghamshire Family History Society. They have only just replied to me, and apparently if I join, I get access to all their digitalised journals, including this article of interest. So I’m joining! Hopefully it might shine some light on the situation.

on FamilySearch they have a baptism spelt Gwalter Eggleston, 15 April 1705, Nettleton, Lincoln, parents John & Mary. They also have four baptisms with parents Walter & Sarah, but Walter spelt Walters in each case.

You are so good at this! I had found those other kid records, but Gwalter had eluded me.

Nettleton seems to be in a completely different part of the county, but I guess that might not matter

Yes. That does appear to be quite a hike from the family’s usual digs.

if you haven't already found it, I think FMP has the image of that Gwalter baptism but spelt Gualter Egglestone - which is not very promising.

    Ohh

I had seen the Nettleton near Bath, I didn’t realise there was Nettleton near Lincoln. That brings it back into contention.

Wikipedia says “Gualter m (nominative singular Gualters)

A male given name, cognate to English Walter.”

There is an Eggleston (and variations) Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1436803959841672/ where you may find some help. My Egleston's with one 'g' are back in the early 1600s in Tattershall, Lincs.so not much help I'm afraid.

    Hi Lee,
I am a relation. We share a manyGs grandfather, William. Your Re John's grandfather John born 1737 was son of William and Mary nee Lovat originally from Aston on Trent, but in South Muskham by 1766 If you have access to ancestry.com a relative has done a pretty good tree Eggon. I find it by searching my relative and limiting to family trees. I have Loveseeds, not Loverseeds. On my tree in family search I did not put your branch at all being focussed. I am from John born 1737 younger brother Joseph.
    Good hunting
    Lynette
