Default WW2 medal - please help

    Hi everyone,

I'm an absolute novice at trying to find information, I've tried some of the links in the "sticky" thread but no luck.

I came across a WW2 medal for sale, and am in the process of purchasing the item, but I would like to know a bit more about the person to whom it was given. From what I have found, the medal was issued to a South African person who served, I don't know if voluntarily. The details on the medal read as follows: C 320286 D Miller.

Is there some way to find out where and when the person served and if he/she survived?

    Thank you,
    Jan

    Hi

Maybe some clues here - https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=426984.0
If like other countries, you will not find much online yet.
Getting service records will answer your questions, but how you go about that I have no idea.

Hi D Miller with that service number does not appear on the CWGC site as a WW2 death. So it looks as though D Miller survived.

    Hi
It might help if we knew what medal it is.
Is it a standard service/campaign medal or is it one of the various gallantry medals?

    Hi,

Thank you so much for all the assistance.
The medal is a standard service/campaign medal.

    Thank you very much.
