Hello! I am researching the JONES family from Streatham, Surrey:
James Jones m. Elizabeth Unknown
Charles, Albert, Arabella, Elizabeth, Fanny
1841 Census Liberty of the Old Artillery Ground, Middlesex
Albert Nutting Jones (1826) m. Mary Monington in 1848 St Pancras Church
Albert James, Mary Jane, Walter, Charles, Mark, Frederick, Priscilla, Fanny
Albert James Jones (1849) m. Jane Hindley ~ Immigrated 1887 to US
William Henry, Alfred, Mary Alice, Edward, Ernest
Lived in Tyldesley, Lancashire
1851 Census Saint Andrew Holborn Above Bars, Middlesex
William Henry Jones (1876) m. Maria Augusta Munro in 1897 in Brooklyn, NY
Norman, Grace, William, Florence, George, Albert, Walter
Norman Henry Jones (1907) m. Reba Laudermilch
William, Norman, Kenneth
My brick wall is James and Elizabeth. Majority of my research has been from Albert Nutting going forward with the male direct line and then backtracking with the females that married into the Jones line.
Any information or direction is greatly appreciated.

Hi Deb,
Duplicate posts are not permitted as they lead to confusion and wasted time with duplicated research, so I have deleted the two in the Surrey and Lancashire forums. This thread can always be moved to another forum (possibly 'General family history'} if you want.
You may or may not be aware that Jones is an extremely common name in England and Wales.
Your family in 1841.
Census reference: HO107/659/1 folio 27 page 8
Fort Street, Old Artillery Ground, Whitechapel
James Jones, 50, silk M
Elizabeth, 40, printer ap(prentice)
Charles, 15, [weaver?]
Albert, 14,
Arrabella, 12
Elizabeth, 10
Fanny, 7
Charles and Fanny born 'in county' (i.e. Middlesex). Rest of the family born 'out of county' (i.e. anywhere else in England)
I think the enumerator went a little cross-eyed while writing out his form as he seems to have given Charles and Albert's occupations to Elizabeth and Charles. Or, bearing in mind, Albert's occupation in 1851, given Albert's occupation to Elizabeth.
In the 1841 census people over the age of 15 had their age rounded down to the nearest 5, so mother Elizabeth, for example, could be any age between 40 and 44.
1851
HO107/1514 folio 163 page 18
57 Grays Inn Lane, Saint Andrew Holborn Above Bars, Holborn
Albert Nutting Jones, head, 24, printer's [traveller?], born Streatham
Mary, wife, 26,
Albert James, son, 1
Mary Jane, daur, 1 month
Mary and the children born London.
Albert's job must pay well, because on the next page of the census there's a nurse and a servant living in the house.

Pam:
Thank you! I'm aware of the 1841 and 1851 census reports and have located the following census years thru the children but James is giving me a run for the money. If you think Jones is tough, I am also researching my mother's line with the last name of Murphy.

Did you find the Baptisms of 3 children in St Leonards, Shoreditch on 7 Aug 1836
James and Elizabeth Jones Silk Manufacturer of Watts Buildings
Elizabeth on the side is 24 Oct 1834
Fanny on the side is 27 July1834
Mark on the side is 24 Jan 1836
This looks like a large Baptism as they are all dated 7 Aug 1836 on the page

Yes, the baptism information was the easy part based on the census names. Elizabeth's name has been my brick wall. Appreciate you checking.
