I have come across a situation that I cannot fully grasp.
Alonzo was born in Walton Somerset in 1855 (Vol 5c page 535) and baptised on 9 Mar 1856.
Alonzo was also born in Walton in 1856 (Vol 5c page 583). There is also a 2nd baptism record for the same date but does not show any reference. Is it possibly a duplicate? Both were listed in a FMP search.
I have ordered both Birth certificates.
The real mystery is that I cannot find any other record for Alonzo. He does not appear on any census. A GRO search failed to find a death certificate. There is a death certificate for Alonza Jane WEECH in 1856 though. Is it possible that this is him and the information is very inaccurate?
Can anyone guide me to determining what happened to poor Alonzo?

It is possible that these are two babies - people who lost one child often named the next one after the deceased sibling. That doesn’t explain the lack of death cents though, although Alonza Jane could be the baby born in 1855...
Do you know who the parents were? Are there other Weech births in the area? It looks to me like a name that would inevitably attract mis-spelling!
(Message crossed with Pamela’s).
Looking at the children listed in #3, I’d investigate the child listed as James...

The 1856 death for Alonza Jane Weech is a female, according to the GRO.
Too many bones, too much sorrow, but until I am dead, there's always tomorrow.

It looks as though the first child died then they named the next child with the same name but referred to him as James.

Thank you all so much, in a couple of hours I have more answers than I could discover in 2 days. I did wonder about an infant death and using the same name for the next child.

Since posting this I have revisited it several times to continue the life of Alonzo II
He appears with the family on the 1861 census as James Wick age 4.
In 1871 he is again James Weech aged 14. I have been unable to locate any information beyond this either as Alonzo or James.
I would appreciate any input as this is the only obstacle I have been unable to overcome to date.

it looks like we can discount the James Weech who married Jane Luxton in 1894. He was born at Wiveliscombe in about 1864.

I did look at him for a while but his father was John Weech.
