    Default Launceston, Tasmania. 1850-1860.

Hi, I'm looking for any information about the Sydney Hotel, Elizabeth Street, Launceston, between 1850 and 1860. In particular Mr.Robert Jones who was either the owner or licensee. Who was he and where did he come from? There are a few mentions on Trove but nothing very constructive. Thank you.

He was Robert Webb JONES and there is a fairly detailed obit here:

I just looked for any Robert JONES having children in Launceston and then looked at the births/baptisms for his occupation.

You might like to check (Tas archives) for a copy of his will 1885 which gives his wife and chn names.
Also 1851 Census on same site /linctas.ent.sirsidynix.net.au and there is a list of publicans in 1870 Launceston thru Google.

You probably already have this which is an ancestry of the Webb/Webb Jones family.
