I'm looking for the maiden name of Elizabeth Caroline Harriet ??
who married William Henry Way in Plymouth 1888.
It looks like this record on free BMD has not yet been transcribed as I can only find William Way
the reference is Q1 1888 5b / 375
Yes I know that I could order up a marriage cert and that may be the only way but would rather try other ways first. There is no certainty of a family connection, just trying to link a Harold Way who was a nephew.
Currently I have no Way's in my family tree.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Regards, Geoff

How certain are you that the bride's names are Elizabeth Caroline Harriet?
On FreeBMD if you click the page number of 375 the 'other names' on the page are just one - Harriet Elizabeth C Saxby.
How much of a coincidence is it that two of the forenames are the same, while the initial of the third name begins that of the third name you've given? Wouldn't be the first person to change the order of her names round.

Hi Pam,
Thank you for your reply.
Therein lies a problem 1901 census shows her as Harriet, 1911 shows her as Caroline Harriet, Probate records her as Elizabeth Caroline Harriet. So yes this could be her, Saxby is not a name that I recognise form my tree either.
Thank you once again.

If it helps the image of the marriage is on fmp. William Henry was 22 and Harriet Elizabeth Caroline was 20. His father was Robert Henry Way, a Labourer and her father Charles Saxby, Green Grocer. She signed H E C Saxby and the witnesses were C Saxby and A E E Saxby.

The bride's name on the GRO index is her maiden name only if she was a spinster and you can't tell that from the index. Other people have pointed to the evidence you need.
One you have the maiden name, bear in mind that it is not necessarily her birth name.
