    Default Death duty registers

In death duty registers I found mention of Joseph Harriman d 1824 and John Rogers d 1836 in Wolverhampton. Does this mean that they made Wills and if so how would I access them.
In a Will of 1872 a beneficiary was awarded 5s (25p) per week for life...that being fron 1872-1897. Can anyone tell me how much in today's money 5s in 1872 would be worth

Have you read the research guide?

    https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/h...ies-1796-1903/

I've only looked at Joseph Harriman. Column 2 has the name of the executor. An executor usually implies there was a will although I'm not too sure whether these indexes might also use it for an administrator.

Column 3 has the name of the court. It looks to me like the Peculiar of Wolverhampton.

Staffordshire Record Office sounds like a likely place or you could try the Mormons.

The Peculiar of Wolverhampton seems to be included in this lot...

Barely half a farm labourer's wage, I think.

    From the MeasuringWorth site

If you want to compare the value of a £0 5s 0d Income or Wealth , in 1872 there are four choices. In 2016 the relative:
historic standard of living value of that income or wealth is £20.48
labour earnings of that income or wealth is £135.60
economic status value of that income or wealth is £168.90
economic power value of that income or wealth is £397.50

    Thanks Keith

I thought 25p per week might have been worth having, but maybe not so generous.
What a comprehensive answer Thank you

Just an uppdate. Chatted with James from Archives and he managed to give me the correct information to request the documents I needed. Just waiting to get them delivered. So thanks to you and thanks to James for taking so much trouble to help.
