Trying to trace Thomas Connelly / Connolly born 14th July 1856, Maryhill, Barony, Glasgow, Larnakshire, appears on the 1871 census for the railway huts at the camp of Carmacoup Douglas, Ayrshire, aged 14, trail gone cold. Family stories that he would possibly be father of an Agnes, but that’s just hearsay.

Hi Christina, I was looking at what you gave and found this
Census 1881 Scotland
Name: Thomas Connolly
Age: 22
Estimated birth year: abt 1859
Relationship: Son
Father's name: James Connolly
Mother's name: Catherine Connolly
Gender: Male
Where born: Maryhill, Lanarkshire
Registration Number: 564/2
Registration district: Greenock East
Civil Parish:Greenock East
County:Renfrewshire
Address: Wes Dublin Mackenzie St
Occupation: Stone Mason (Hewer)
Roll: cssct1881_165
Household Members: James Connolly (64), Catherine Connolly (56), Thomas Connolly (22), Thomas King (32)
Parents were James and Catherine - 1871 they were both 50 yo. ??
But I can't get anything 1891 for a stone mason - your 1891 is a boot -caster - don't know what that is
The Wes should state wee - as in "Wee Dublin" where the Irish stay
Apparently Greenock football stadium still has a "Wee Dublin" end
I'll keep looking

Hi Gerry
I am just wondering how you got back to this man as one of your ancestors. Is he your direct line? Can you give me a little background as to how you identified him as an ancestor? Was it a marriage?

Hi Christina, Thomas Connelly/Connolly is 1-2 years younger than his sister Catherine, my great gran, and I think holds a key to the “who do you think you are?” question by person and name. Born on arrival in Scotland, the requirement to state origin of parents (James Connolly and Catherine Connor) had been suspended, probably due to volume. I only have his date of birth and none for his brothers (in order) James, John, Bernard or Catherine. Catherine (marriage John McLaughlin 2nd Oct 1872, Muirkirk states parents James Connolly and Catherine Connor) and states in a 1911 census that she had 11 kids, I can find 10, I missing one. Her sons where (in order) James, John, Bernard and then the 10th child is Joseph, is Thomas the missing child ?
My mum speaks of my gran taking her to my gran’s older Connelly cousin in Maryhill – Agnes Connelly Geddes (then remarried Flynn) – who’s daughter ? – James Connelly ? can’t find him – John ? he went to US, 225 E 103st, Catherine’s kids caught in 1905 census there – Bernard, found him yesterday 1899 stating same US address, then found him, died single, 26 June 1927, Thomas ?? – I continue to search. I know the age is wrong for this man and he isn't in Scotland but thought I would post it for you to put in the 'maybe' file.
You could try looking upnewspapers of the time to see if there is more detail which would confirm his identity.

that explosion occurred on 2 March. The newspapers certainly list T Connelly amongst the missing. This website has dropped the Y off his name
