Default Location of DCM written Citations

    Dear Friends,

Where can I find the actual citation for a DCM awarded in 1901 for a Boer War Imperial Yeomany 9th Bn sergeant?

I imagine there must be a written description of the action that gave rise to the award, where might I find it? The London Gazette gives only the award no written citation.

    Thank you for any help

    Peter

    Hello Peter,

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

This is a thread about a similar query. Scroll down to post numbers 2 and 9.

I don't know if the DCM is classed as a gallantry award. If so, this might help.

I don't think that I have ever seen an official citation for the DCM... I HAVE had luck with newspapers from someone's area - "local boy did good" reports were popular when someone got it for a single deed.

There are a number of threads asking about Citations, to find them just enter citations in the search box.
Here are a couple of links to two of those threads.

I'm afraid the concensus is generally not hopeful of finding official documents but several alternate lines of enquiry are suggested.

    Thanks StintonLomas

My man is in 19/04/1901 page 2707 of London Gazette. Sergeant I Nicoll (should be NICHOLL). But nothing more.
