    Default Brindley

I am not sure if this is a connection but I am following a possible lead.

I have a James Brindley where his Army paperwork says several different ages plus two different places of birth (so I am thinking he probably enlisted under age and lied about age and place of birth).

Someone on Ancestry says his father is Jonathon but I have not confirmed this or have been able to contact the person to find out why they say this.

    I have found a Marriage for a

Jonathon Brindley and a Charlotte Parton
    10 June 1790
    Staffordshire
    St Mary

If I allow for my James making out he was older than he was by a couple of years, then this Marriage is a possible match. My James Brindley's daughter is named Charlotte and from the family tree that is known for his wife, the name Charlotte is not one of them.

Are there any records for children from this Marriage available?

    Thanks in advance.

I have found the following, all with parents Jonathan and Charlotte, all baptised Stafford St Mary.

William Brindley born 27 May 1791 baptised 26 June 1791
John Brinley born 4 January 1794 baptised 9 February 1794
Joseph Brindley born 7 May 1796 baptised 8 May 1796
Elizabeth Brindley born 1 June 1802 baptised 8 June 1802
Richard Brindley born 12 October 1806 baptised 12 October 1806

    Unfortunately nothing for a James.

    Possible first child
    Name Thomas Brinly
    Gender Male
    Christening Date 30 Nov 1823
Christening Date (Original) 30 NOV 1823
    Christening Place ARNOLD,NOTTINGHAM,ENGLAND
    Father's Name James Brinly
    Mother's Name Mary

Viewing the original entry may shed some light on James senior...i.e employment / place etc

There is a discharge document indicating that James Brindley was b circa 1788 Arnold being discharged to NSW Veterans Company

    Geneius,

Thanks, Yes that very much looks like my great great grandmother's brother. Their parents (James and Mary) moved to Tasmania 1826. They were married in Arnold Nottingham, 1823 and the spelling of the surname is also Brinly. I can't find a death for Thomas either in England or Tasmania. It is Jame's parents I am attempting to find. James's Army papers are confusing regarding his birth year.

His first period of service was between 1803 and 1819, born 1785 in Harna, Nottingham, and the second between 1826 and 1830, born 1788 in Arnold, Nottingham

    ok

James's Army papers dated 30 Jan 1826 say he was enlisted at Chatham, Kent.

so I searched Kent for Thomas's death in Kent 1823 -1826

    and found

Thomas Brinley died 2 Feb 1826, Kent, Rochester : St Margaret of Antioch (age says 1 but he should have been 2)

My cousin has informed me that someone on Ancestry has that James was born Arnold Nottingham 1788 with no birth information (church, dates or parents), that his parents are William Brindley and Sarah Houlding m 19 Sept 1785 All Saints, Sadbury, Darbyshire plus I think she said it says his grandfather is apparently John/Jonathan Brindley.

Until my cousin and I see documentary evidence of these connections (example a birth registration with parents names), we will be putting them into the unproven leads pile.
