Smile Catharine Forster school mistress Barrowden

Wondering if anyone knows something of Catharine Forster nee Swift aged 43, and head of household in 1851 Census? Husband John Willsworth Forster, and would also like to know something about him. Thank you.

Thank you Christina. A Jesse Willsworth was also born to them, aged about 10 in 1851. Interesting that Catharine has retired by age 53, and daughter has taken over. Appreciate that you have checked for me

And if you want to go further back, Catharine Shelton SWIFT was baptised 28 May 1808 at Barrowden, daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth SWIFT according to my Rutland Baptismal Index. The Marriage Index shows that Thomas SWIFT married Elizabeth DARLOW on 17 August 1807 at Barrowden.

John Wilsworth FOSTER was baptised at Barrowden on 23 November 1806 son of William & Mary FOSTER . There is a marriage at Barrowden on 14 October 1804 between William FOSTER & Mary WOODS.

FindmyPast have the parish register images of all these events whilst Ancestry have the Bishop's Transcript images, so if you can access either of them you should be able to build up family trees for both Catharine & John.

    FMP Parish Burials (image)
Catherine Forster, Barrowden, bur. 14 May 1875, age 66

The death notice in the Grantham Journal, 22 May 1875, describes her as " relict of John Willsworth Forster" and " eldest daughter of the late Thomas Swift"

If Thomas is described as "late" but JWF isn't "late", does that mean JWF is still alive? The only doc I have, and can access as my Ancestry sub has expired, is the 51 Census, and the scribble next to Catharine appears to be a "W". Any thoughts?
    I do appreciate everyone's input.

No, it means JWF had died previously; the word relict means WIDOW, so Catherine was the widow of JWF when she died.

Oh dear, now I feel like a fool. Could have saved you the trouble, and looked up the meaning in the dictionary! Sorry to waste your time, but thanks!
