    Default Bruntingthorpe parish marriage register

Would welcome some fresh eyes to give an opinion on the name of Henry Seale's bride...Elizabeth (Henckman??). Marriage took place 24 November 1670 Bruntingthorpe. Thank you.

    I would suggest Henchman.

Henchman is an occupational surname (meaning groom or squire). There are many variants eg Hensman.

It's always a good idea to tell people where you found the entry. (FMP Leicestershire marriages.)

I was going to say that the second letter looks like an O - see Boonby two entries above.
But then if you look at the December two entries below, then it could be an E.

I did try to find a Henry and Elizabeth in the Leicestershire marriage licences and Leicestershire banns without success.

I haven't looked in the wills and probate section to see if there's a possible 'to my brother-inlaw' entry.

I agree with Peter in that the surname looks like HENCHMAN. The 'k' in the entry below that of Henry SEARLE, i.e. that of Thomas PERKINS, is very different to the 5th letter in Elizabeth's surname.

Thank you Janet. She's proving elusive. Lizzie
