    Default George Jarvis b 1895

Hi hoping that someone can suggest where I can find out more on this.
On a Baptism record from 1895 for the Parish of St. James in Fulham the father's occupation is listed as "Police Constable". The Metropolitan Police was set up in 1829 by Robert Peel under act of parliament with responsibility for law enforcement in Greater London (excluding the City of London).
When did Fulham become part of "greater London"? Did it ever have its own county police (Middlesex)?
If it was always part of the Met do they have records going back to 1895 and where can I find them?

Thank you in advance of your assistance.

    Hi
Maybe this research guide at The National Archives can help.

Greater London as an administrative county was first established in 1965.

I was a school girl living in Middlesex at the time and was very confused to be told that it was being abolished and would no longer exist, but that it should still be used in addresses.

No wonder teachers liked children to listen and not ask awkward questions in those days!!!

Metropolitan Police pension registers are online at Ancestry. Look for "London, England, Metropolitan Police Pension Registers, 1852-1932".

MEPO4 is likely to be of interest - https://discovery.nationalarchives.go...tails/r/C10813
