Thank you for all the help.
I think I have found Henry Johnson in the 1851 census Westminster St Margaret, Middlesex. (Piece 1480, Folio 565, p45).
As he is not living with his parents I need to find a birth certificate for him for his birth in approx., 1838, Hayes Middlesex. I always find trying to trace some one with such a popular name rather difficult.

I feel sure that the 1881 census information is correct and the enumerator must have put down the wrong surname. Hargreaves is not in any way similar to Johnson so thank you for finding this. All help much appreciated. Thank you.

BUT.............she's with her parents in 1861 (if the right folks, why would Henry be in an institution (Alms School) in 1851?)

In 1841, Matthew is also in an institution (school?) headed by a governess.
    Isleworth, piece 658; book 7; folio 11; page 15

    Benjamin I haven't spotted in1841, he's easily found in 1851 and later.

William, Thomas and John I haven't pinned down with certainty, more searching required and I don't have the spare time just now. Hopefully what's been found will be some help to you.

Just before I leave the search here's Mary Ann's burial record, Hayes 16 Oct 1864, Mary Ann Johnson age 62yrs.

Harriet Godfrey was Hargreaves in 1881 census, and Hargreaves in 1901 census in Thanet with her grandson. In the 1911 census she is still in Thanet living with her daughter Mary A E Evans and two of her grandsons, but is back to being Harriet Johnson.

Her daughter Mary married Charles Cecil Evans Mar Qtr. 1901, Thanet with the name Mary Ann Hargraves Johnson. Did Henry Johnson die and Harriet re-marry a Mr Hargraves? It would appear that her last child with Johnson surname was in 1877, and by 1881 she was using the name Hargraves, did she marry another plumber?

Default Henry Thomas Johnson - Bailiff

Henry Thomas Johnson was the father of Henry Johnson who married Harriett Godfrey on 16 November 1867. He was noted as being a Bailiff on his son's marriage certificate. Any further help trying to find him in census records would be a help. He was not marked as deceased, so I am hopeful he can be found in 1861, and possibly 1871.

Have youbeen able to eliminate this Harriet from 1871?

FS have a married 23 year old Harrett (note spelling) Johnson in 1871 in Paddington, no husband shown. She is with a Margeret King b 1825 widow, a Caroline Longsdaleb 1827, nurse and a 2 year old boarder Edith Faircloth .
