    Hi susyswan,

I have found Edward Ledwidge age 3 months in 1841 with parents Phillip 20yrs a baker and Susan 20yrs, they are in St Helier and living at the same address as George Seckerson, but are a separate household unit. HO107; Piece: 1461; Book: 8; Folio: 9; Page: 13.

I cannot find Phillip or Edward after 1841, how certain are you that Susan Ledwidge is the lady with George Seckerson in 1851, 61 and 71?

    1851 HO107; Piece: 1882; Folio: 27; Page: 48
    George Seckerson 42, cabinet maker
    Susan Seckerson 40
    Wiliam Collings 20, stepson
    Ann Collings 12, stepdau
    Susan Seckerson 8, dau.
*All said to be born Devon which is in disagreeance with the 1861 census.

    1861, Stoke Damerel. RG 9; Piece: 1451; Folio: 97; Page: 18;
George Seckerson 56, cabinet maker, Guernsey
    Susan Seckerson 50, Devonport
    Susan Seckerson 18, Jersey.

If William and Ann Collings are Susan's children it indicates Susan was previously named Collings, also Susan was 20 in 1841, 40 in 1851 and 50 in 1861, so a jump of 6 to 10yrs allowing for the 1841 census rounding ages down by up to 4yrs.

There's "Ancestry" suggested records for Susan born abt. 1843 that she was born COLLINGS and married William NETTLES.

    Scottish Stranraer census 1871
    William Nettles 36, Coastguard, Ireland
    Susannah Nettles 27, Jersey
    Julia Anne Nettles 9, England
    Henrietta Nettles 6, England
    Elizabeth Nettles 2, Stranraer
    Susannah Nettles 8 Mo, Stranraer

Birth reg. Henrietta Nettles, Oct-Nov-Dec 1866 Stoke Damerel
Birth reg. Julia Ann Nettles, Apr - Jun 1862, Stoke Damerel

Marriage: Stoke Damerel, Apr - Jun 1861, William Nettles also listed Susannah Collings

It appears that William died in 1875
    Name: William Nettles
    Death Age: 39
    Birth Date: abt 1836
    Death Date: abt 1875
    Death Place: Naval Asylum Yarmouth
    Burial Date: 11 Jan 1875
Burial Place: Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England
    Cemetery: Yarmouth Old Cemetery

There's also a *suggestion* that Susan remarried some time after William's death (to John H Lawrence)

I don't know the accuracy of the above, but offer them to you for your consideration.

Please can you say what steps you took to get back to George Seckerson and his wife/partner Susan.

It is possible Philip Ledwidge (1841) had two first names, William Philip, and further that the surname was oft recorded with different spellings.

There is this burial record which could be him. St Helier, Burial 21 Nov 1861, William Philip LEDWITH, Approx birth year = 1820

And in 1851, Providence Street, St Helier. HO107; Piece: 2527; Folio: 482; Page: 50
William Ledwich 30, baker (same as 1841)
    Susan Ledwich 30
    Edward Ledwich 10
    Susan Ledwich 8
    Philip Ledwich 6
    Julia Ledwich 4

    1861, RG9; Piece: 4397; Folio: 56; Page: 18;
    William Ledwich 44
    Susan Ledwich 41
    Philip Ledwich 16
    Julia Ledwich 15
    George Ledwich 4
    William Ledwich 7
    Mary Ledwich 3

    1871, Susan(nah) is a widow, RG10; Piece: 5757; Folio: 122; Page: 15

Which family is it you are researching? Seckerson or Ledwich/Ledwith/Ledwidge?
