Hi hope this will ring some bells with some one....my great grandad. I 1st find him on a marrige cert in 1897 in chacombe just outside banbury....marrying grt gran mary Elizabeth bennett.....name william oconnor.....fathers name William oconnor
iv searched high and low for him using that info.....and on future census....born 1873/4 Manchester or liverpool.....never founf the right one.....turns out his real name was william/billy ayres and came to chacombe on a travelling boxing booth.....any one have any ideas how or where to start looking.....limited info i know but its the final piece of info im stuck on

Yes iv seen this one sure his father frm Charlbury. .....had sister clare/clara.....but im sure he died in Oxford

The marraige of William Richard Ayers to Elizabeth DORE matches the maiden name on the birth reg of William Henry.

Im sure that they we're living in st giles Oxford and william Henry ayres died st barnabus parish....cant remember the yr....

1911 census he is William O'Connor, if you look at the other entries, they all look like C Connor. As to why Liverpool and a change of name, who knows.

That's the same census - 1881. States birthplace Broughton Manchester.Broughton is in Salford where the birth was registered.
There is a tree on Ancestry with all this info in which relates to the same family.
You could order the birth cert from the GRO this would name the father also.
Possible Birth reg - same mothers maiden name.

The tree on ancestry is mine. ....i did at one point think that William h ayres was william oconnor....but iv seen death for William h ayres in oxford so they cant be one and same im sure cant get on ancestry site today to screen shot the record....
