    Default Baxter and Mobbs

    I thought I would start a thread for Baxter’s and Mobbs;
Hopefully there might be someone searching those names as well.
And it would be so fantastic to find relatives of which there must be hundreds.
The Baxter’s and Mobbs are the two families that immigrated to Australia back in the mid 1800’s that started my fathers side of the family Tree. I can’t seem to get past Richard Baxter and Catherine Walker as I don’t have any info on them. Their son Richard immigrated to Australia on the immigration ship the “Telegraph” on the 23/1/1855 docking in Port Adelaide, He was Richard Baxter, D.O.B 1828 in Birmingham. His wife Charlotte Hall was Born 1834 in England. They were married on the 1/11/1852 at polesworth, Warwickshire. And both died in Truro South Australia .
On the Mobbs side Charles Mobbs 1808 and Harriet Chapman (Immigrated to Australia from Kettering on the Abberton immigration ship on the 13/12/1846. his father was a Charles Mobbs ( 1808 to 1881) with a brother William. Their father was Astil Mobbs B. 1776 . he married a Rebecca clerk on the 30/10/1795 At Cransley and apparently she required her parents signature as she was a minor. It seems you needed this if you were under 21. But I do not have a date of Birth for her.
There appears to be lots of Mobbs in Kettering and it seems that the Baxters had lots of relatives in Polesworth.
If anyone can give some pointers that would be awesome. Some searches from Australia to Britain are blocked, especially newspaper articles.
    Regards Alan.

    Hello Alan
Where did you get the Name of Richard Baxter as Richard jnr's father's name? His baptism record on family search only gives a mother's name - Catherine Baxter.

    Richard Baxter
    Baptised 25 Jan 1829 - Polesworth,Warwick,England
    Mother - Catharine Baxter
    FHL Film Number - 0229102, 0229103

You could order the film in to your nearest LDS centre to see if there is any more information on the original record.

Do you have Richard born 1828 on any census. The only likely contender I can see at the moment is this one
    1841 HO107 piece 1130 book 4 folio 23 page 9
    Dordon, Polesworth
    Sarah Baxter 75 Ag lab
    Richard Baxter 12
    Both born in the County

Hi Christina ..okay well I KNOW for certain that it was Richard and Charlotte Baxter immigrated to Australia and his son william married Sarah Ellen Mobbs. we know the ship they came on and all that. we have a portrait of Richard and Charlotte hall . and we know he was born in 1828, some other family has done a Baxter tree and they had on that tree that Richards parents were Richard and Catherine Walker so I am only going by that, they didnt give references to that. This is the only evidence that i have. We also know that William a son of Richard had a sister who married a William Miller. But really that is all we are 100 perscent certain of. Williams wife Sarah Ellen Mobbs remarried after he died, William is buried in Parkes cemetery in NSW. he was my Great Grandfather.

I think he could possibly be the Ried Baxter in FS in 1851 in Polesworthw with parents Thomas and Catherine Wilkins, plus Sarah and Maria Wilkins. HO 10 P 2064 f118 p 18. He is an unmarried coal miner.
Sarah age 10 has mmn Baxter inGRO.

Thanks for the tips ...OMG its complicated when you get this far back...I also have it that Charlotte Halls parents were Thomas Hall Born 1804 At Alderton, England, with mother Anne (unknown) and that he was a shoe maker from Kettering .. but that is just taken from another persons tree looking for the same people !!!!
