    Hi Coral and Welcome.

The Victorian BDM indexes are free to search online:

    https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/indexsearch.doj

You can purchase and download an image of the marriage cert which will give you the names of both parents, age, and birthplace. His death names his parents as Mat and Ann (maiden surname HALL) but death certificates can be very unreliable so you really need to get the marriage cert.

Just for future reference, you do not need a certified copy for family research. When you search the online indexes just click on the result line and it will open in list form with the purchase options at the bottom. You just choose 'Historical Marriage Image' and after you pay they will email a link to download the certificate.

    Hi Coral
I have merged your last reply thanking Dundee10 for the suggestion to order the marriage certificate. When replying to a post do it on the thread it relates to. You can find all the threads you have started by clicking on your user name and then on 'view all forum posts' from the drop down menu.
