the closest I can get to this is a John WELLING (no S) marrying Elizabeth BURCH in February 1829, Aldbury, Hertford.

alternatively a few John WELLINGS marrying non-Elizabeths

and a John Thompson Wellings marying Eliza Wilson, 1834, Stafford.

    Kaye,

As you have the names of the children from the census records, check the GRO Historic births Index for birth registrations of any of the children, and you should find Elizabeth's maiden name listed. https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
You have to register but it's free to search.
Enter Shoreditch as the registration district.

I believe Elizabeth was b C1814 in Shoreditch. Not sure why????
    Possibly from a census record?

By the way, are you sure hubby was called John?

No, not sure but hopeful. I started with Emma WELLINGS (G-G-Grandma) bap 27 Jan 1833 Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London to John WELLINGS and Elizabeth. This off Family Search.

I see the Emma Wellings baptism in Shoreditch but at the moment I'm struggling to find any other Shoreditch Wellings baptism (we need one 1837 onwards to check the GRO Index for mother's maiden names).

I don't know if George Gordon Wellings is one of the eleven, born 1846, baptised Saint Pancras. His mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Watkins but I think John Wellings married Elizabeth Watkins in 1844.

What other children do you have for John and Elizabeth? i.e. names and when born?
Did you find them on the 1841, 1851, and/or 1861 census?
Have you searched for them only on FamilySearch? It's a very useful tool but it has its limitations. Doesn't give father's occupation for instance in baptism transcriptions, something which is detailed in the parish registers from 1813 onwards.

Do you have Emma's marriage certificate, and if so, what's her father's name and occupation?
Who did she marry, and when?

I claimed George Gordon as one of John and Elizabeth's children. Perhaps I was wrong.

I haven't had much luck in the census'. (But that's not unusual).
Emma mar John ANGELL 6 Mar 1855 in Adelaide, South Australia.
She arrived Adelaide, SA 25 Dec 1853 on 'Epaminondas'.
I also claimed the death of John Wellings in 1876 Marylebone as John, the father of Emma and her possible siblings.
