I have the baptism of Joseph Alphey on 4th February 1792 in Lewisham, Kent. Parents George and Mary. 'Botany Bay' was at the end of the entry. Can anyone explain where this is please. I'm assuming it's not NSW.
Also would like help in locating the marriage of George and Mary, (I have tried, on Ancestry and Find my Past, to no avail). Would appreciate any help or advice, thank you in advance. Kaye.

I put Botany bay Kent UK in to google maps and one popped up. Botany bay, Botany road, Broadstairs. Could that be it? approximately 72 miles from Lewisham which I thought was in London. Someone who actually lives in the UK may have more idea than me.

Thank you christanel. I never thought of doing that. Does seem a long way for a baptism unless that's where they were married????

presumably these two marriages on FMP have been eliminated (I don't have a subscription to see the spouse name)
George Alphey 1780 - St Mary Lambeth
George Alphey 1791 - St George Southwark
when you say that Botany Bay is written "at the end of the entry" - you mean as the location of the baptism ?
apparently there's a Botany Bay hamlet near Enfield

Thank you wimsey, for your help. I didn't find those marriages when I looked today on FMP. I can go back to the library and do another search. (Also don't have a subscription).
The entire baptism entry is written on one line 4 (Feb, 1792, both separate headings) Joseph Son of George & Mary Botany Bay.
'Botany Bay hamlet' it would be then. Thank you so much for your time and help. Kaye.

Ancestry is giving me a marriage of George Alphey to Mary Shepherd but I don't know the year because I don't have a subscription.

Botany Bay was a dwelling or location at Lewisham Bridge.
