Default Hardenlye, Sussex - is there such a place?

According to the 1852 Census - HO107/160 Folio:7 Page:7 - Thomas LANGRIDGE was born in Hardenlye, Sussex. That is certainly what it looks like on the image.

I can find no such place - is there a local who can suggest where he may have been born (c.1766). I have looked at maps of Sussex and lists of places in Sussex without success.

I would give: Ardingly, Sussex a go.

    Agreed. Ardingly - pronounced Ar-ding-lie.

Sounds like a good suggestion. Thank you. I will check it out.

    Thanks to Peter, also.
