I have just found the marriage of Edward ANDERSON to Isobel DONALDSON in Ormiston in 1752. The entry reads
Other entries on the same page end with abbreviations such as NEP, NWP, SWP. Does anyone know what they stand for?Sat 12 April 1752
Edward ANDERSON, wright, in Ormiston & Isobel DONALDSON is the D George DONALDSON, shoemaker, in Ormiston, now in N.N.K.P.
Aha! have just realised the P probably stands for parish and they are all neighbouring parishes. Off to consult a map.....

It seems to be an Edinburgh thing. The online register (printed) at https://archive.org/details/registerofmarria35edin is riddled with the same abbreviations, and the P appears to be in lower case with the other letters in capitals.
