Have you considered that her Mother may have married Mr. Arthur William Green after Alma's birth? or perhaps he died while she was still young enough to mis-remember his name properly.

Not my Alma she died in 1926 when my mother was 3 in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, The Kirkham Tree does have my Alma on it but they have her born in Essex which I think is wrong as the father is different

Sue, have you tried following up on the employment angle? It seems likely that Alma was working for George Kent and this post says....

"Bedfordshire Archives has some valuable records of work in a munitions factory in the George Kent collection (ref: GK), which is currently being catalogued. George Kent Ltd employed thousands of women workers at its Biscot Road site and at a specially extended site at Chaul End".

    https://bedshomefront.blogspot.com.au...y-bedford.html

There might be surviving employment records and you would think that with the nature of their work they would have to give a next of kin and address. If Alma worked there from the outbreak of war it could get you a few more years back in time.

If Alma's children are deceased can you post their first names?
