Sandyhall, my apologies. I hadn't read the thread properly and omitted to register that Joseph wasn't necessarily born in Holmfirth/Upperthong but that was the area he was living and working in in 1891. However your 1891 census does suggest there were two Joseph's born circa 1860 in the Huddersfield area. So, which of the two is the one being researched here!

The original post stated Joseph was a minister.
My post#8 1891 census,this Joseph was also a minister.
Post#9 seems to relate to the same Joseph.
1901 has this Joseph with wife and son in Lymington,Hampshire. This appears to be the same Joseph.

Yes, I believe he's the chap being researched here, but as Sandy pointed out there's two Joseph Cliffe's born Huddersfield circa 1860, and it isn't obvious which is the correct one on earlier census. I haven't found a marriage image for either perhaps both were married in the Register Office
