Where did you find he died in 1868 as
I have found Edward and Lucy on the census 1851, 1861 and 1871 in Harting, Sussex, England.

They also have a son Edward born abt 1842 Harting, Sussex, England. 1851 and 1861 census

Did you see a William born c1845 to this couple Sandyhall because I have been searching for a birth registration and a sighting in 1851 and can't see him.

Hi Sandy & Christina, You have raised a good question. Most of my research was done fifty years ago and my record keeping is suspect but what I have.

    1. My grandfather William b: 28 Jan 1876 at Poplar, Middlesex, England. Birth Certificate shows his father as William Love and his mother as Sarah Love late McIntosh formerly Small. ( I have had pretty good luck tracing back the Small family)

    2. My Great grandfather William listed in the Civil Registration Birth Index as born the first quarter 1845 in Halstead,Essex county. Wiliam's father as Edward Love, Glass grinder

    3. Marriage Certificate for William Love age 23 Widower and Sarah McIntosh age 24 Widow is dated 17 May 1869. Shows William's father as Edward Love, Glass Grinder and Sarah's father as Joseph Small. Glass Smoother.

    4. I don't know the source but have the death of Edward Love 1814-1868.

    5. Pennsylvania death certificate shows William died 6 Mar 1908 at Charleroi, Pennsylvania, USA. I have a lot of info my mother passed on about her grandfather that he came to the USA to start Glass Factories in initially in the state Indiana and his friendship with wild Bill Hitchcock Don't know if its true? (Now for the surprise his mother's maiden name is shown as Ward.)

Now I'm confused. Maybe William's father was a different Edward Love and his mother wasn't Lucy Pay?

I would appreciate your thoughts. Jim

Hi Sandy, I think my great grandfather moved his family to the USA around 1886 but remember my mother saying he went back and forth several times while establishing the glass works before moving permanently. I can remember my grand father who was young when he moved here saying that he lived within the sound of the bells from the tower of London. Jim

Sarah is the informant on Willian's death certificate in 1908. William's occupation is Glass worker, born 29 March 1845, Name of father Edward Love, mother's maiden name Ward.

    On the same page FreeBMD
Marriage registration district Stafford, Staffordshire. Sept 1/4 18 vol 17 page 127
    Edward Love and Louisa Ward
But the only Louisa and Edward I can find on the censuses 1841 and 51 are born and living in Kent and have no children with them.
