Default WILLIAM HENRY CRAWCOUR c 1805-1845

This new thread provides a range of data relating to William Henry Crawcour c 1805-1845 aka Henry Crawcour aka Henry Cracour son of Isaac Crawcour c1777-1837 and Simha Cohen De Lara 1776-1851. Some 12 years ago I purchased GRO Records relating to William aka Henry which included his marriage and death plus several documents on his descendants. The addition of census and other records not available at the time has helped fill in some missing gaps relating to William aka Henry. The transcription errors in several documents online particularly census regarding the spelling of the last name Crawcour ( versions include Croker, Cracour) has made it difficult to trace the lines accurately.

A family tree on the Crawcour has a record for a first Jewish marriage for William aka Henry to Gitcha bat Isaac in 1831. There is no other data to confirm this marriage or the name of the first wife and her death. However, there is a GRO Record I hold for the marriage in 1837 December 8 Parish Church St.Mary Nottingham for:
William Henry CROKER above 21 bachelor Traveller St Georges's Hanover Square London father John Isaac Croker deceased Gentleman
Mary BRIDDON above 21 no occupation - Cl...ber Street - father William BRIDDON butcher
    Married by Licence
Witnesses Joseph Parkham; William ....? x mark

The confirmation that this William Henry Croker is William Henry Crawcour appears in the burial inscription for his son Robert Crawcour- see billiongraves website- Tombstone photograph and inscriptions Robert Crawcour grand son of William Briddon aged 1 year 10 months died 1846 also William Briddon who died Nov 10 1802 aged 72 years and his wife Mary who died June 20 1802 aged 72 years- Buried Nottingham Cemetery.
Another brother Charles Edward Crawcour 1841-1821 appears to have been called Henry at least on one occasion as I will post.

In the marriage Certificate for William Henry Croker aka Crawcour his residence was recorded as St George's Hanover Square London. The following 2 records suggest that William and Henry are one in the same:
Partnership between Henry Crawcour and David De Lara carrying on business of Stationers at 21 Mount Street Whitechapel Dissolved 20 March 1838 -The London Gazette
The Lancaster Gazette and General Advertiser for Lancashire and Westmoreland Sat December 4 1841
"George SIMMONDS 11 Carlto Strret Islington Green London, Philip LEVESON of London, Henry CRACOUR of Nottingham.Henry CRACOUR of Nottingham, who represented himself as the authorised successor of Messrs Stephens and Co of London, marking ink manufacturers and inventors of gold fluid. These men were examined at Ulverston.
Simmonds and Leveson were committed for trial and "Cracour was liberated for want of evidence and left Ulverston for Lancaster in his gig"

The following records relate to Charles Edward Crawcour born Nottingham in 1841. In the first of the records the last name is recorded as Croker but alias Cracour or Crawcoar. This record is from the UK Criminal Records - Charles Croker alias Cracour or Crawcoar- Larceny - before service summarily convicted under the Juvenile Offender Act- sentence 4 years imprisonment.
Date of Trial 31 December 1855 Nottinghamshire.
A Newspaper article ( Nottinghamshire Guardian Thursday March 15 1855) recorded the trial and sentence of a Charles Croker age 13 and Thomas Bell 16 committed to prison the former for a fortnight and to be once whipped and the latter for a month of hard labour.
I suspect that Charles Croker and Charles Crawcour in both trials are one in the same.
