Hi
These are photos of brothers, the older looking one is according to the family my grandfather (DoB1884) who joined the army during the 1900s (in barracks at Bordon 1911 census), the younger one is his elder brother (DoB1881- DoD 1903 Mafeking), his uniform fits with the regiment we know he joined.
My question is did that photographer operate from the same premises for long enough that it would fit with those dates?

Well, the answer seems to be 'yes'.
I have just found, via a Sheffield site, a spreadsheet giving the names and dates of Sheffield Photographers. (https://sheffieldindexers.com/) If you put exactly this into a bing/Google search you will probably get straight to the spreadsheet: https://sheffieldindexers.com/images/...d Photogaphers.

William T Furniss, draper is listed in the 1901 Whites directory (which could refer to early 1901 or late 1900) as 264 Langsett Road, while William T Furniss junior is listed as photographer at 256 Langsett Road. there is the same entry in the 1905 directory, (which would apply late 1904 or early 1905)

The 1901 census has William T Furniss, aged 17, photographer (own account), living at 256 and 254 Langsett Road,
Father, also William T, aged 41 is a draper shopkeeper (own account). RG13/4342 folio 90 page 38.
1911 census for the same address just shows mother Sarah Ann, aged 54, and younger brother Frank Rollin, aged 15 living there. RG14/27716 SN279
William Thomas, photographic artist, aged 27, with his wife and three children is living in Hawthorn Road. RG14/27920 SN212
White's directory of Sheffield and Rotherham 1911 says on page 597 'Furniss, William T, photographer 254, and draper 256, Langsett Road'. https://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/c...d/64231/rec/65

Hi
Thanks very much for those replies.
It would appear that he was a very talented fellow if he was using "Medalist" on his backing plates as early as 17yrs.
and that young age also helps to explain the apparent time span between pictures.
