    Default Braintree Union Workhouse

I am trying to solve, once and for all, the mystery of Annie Hedges
The person of interest is as follows (from census records)
Census of England and Wales 1871
    The Braintree Union Workhouse

Annie Hedges, Inmate age 6, born Braintree, Essex

Census of England and Wales 1881
    The Braintree Union Workhouse

Annie Hedges, pauper, unmarried aged 17 born Essex

Census of England and Wales 1891
    Braintree Union Workhouse

Annie Hedges Inmate Single aged 26, Born Essex, Braintree

Census of England and Wales 1901
    Braintree Union Workhouse
Annie Hedges, pauper, single, aged 40, general servant domestic, born Essex, Braintree, a cripple

Now I have located my ancestor Isaac Saward in the Braintree Union Workhouse (1871 census where he is aged 84) and therefore I am keen to locate records pertaining to Isaac's and Annie's admission to the Braintree Union Workhouse. Also any records relating to their leaving this institution. Annie arrived in New Zealand in 1910 and was in the workhouse in 1901.
    thanks
    daryl

Surviving records will be at Essex Records Office. Not many 19th century records seem to have survived.

However, you had better check for yourself. The catalogue is online and they also have a research service.

Try search term Braintree Poor Law Union. The main catalogue reference is G/Br
