Is it possible that someone could appear on the same US census twice, once at his home address and again as a hospital inmate?
I posted a while ago about George Henry Anthony, born c1874, who migrated to Chicago from England about 1906. He's with his wife Rose in 1910 and then disappears, but a George Henry Anthony with very similar details appears in Chicago in 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940 as the inmate of psychiatric hospitals. I've been discounting this man because he was in hospital in 1910, but I'm beginning to wonder if he could be the same George that appears with Rose. What are the chances?

It is possible to appear more than once in a Census - I have found several instances of it.
In the case of my family it is mostly girls in service who are included at their home address and where they work. I think it's entirely possible that a family could include someone in hospital in the family entry and for that person to also appear in the hospital entry.

I don't see why not - I am on the 1981 census three times.
