Default Help please with the Tighe family

    Hi
I am looking for James and Margaret Tighe and family, I have found them on the 1900 census for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with there family on the census it looks like they moved to the states in 1881.
It must have been after April of that year as I have them living in Manchester on the census, I can not find them on any passenger list, hope you may be able to help.

James Tighe born abt 1854 Ireland
    Margaret Tighe abt 1853 Manchester
John Thomas Tighe abt 1873 Manchester
    Edward Tighe abt 1876 Manchester
    William Tighe abt 1879 Manchester
Rose Ann Tighe abt 1881 Manchester

Any help with this family would be very much appreciated
    Kind regards Sue

James Tighe married Margaret Own on 2 Dec 1871 In Manchester (Dec quarter Vol 8D Page 415). His father was John and Margaret’s was Thomas Owen. When he married he was described as a French polisher.

1881 Census: 2 Junction Street, Manchester. Piece 4000 Folio 80 Page 17. James’s brother John born 1860 a machine painter was also living with them. Unfortunately the original does not give any information other than Ireland for their place of birth. Remember at that time that expression would have covered both Northern and Southern Ireland.

1900 Federal Census: Philadelphia Ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Roll: 1452; Page: 1B; Enumeration District: 0056; FHL microfilm: 1241452. By this time they have 9 children, although there is a 10 year gap between the 4th and 5th children, which suggests that there must have been others. That is confirmed by the actual return which says that she had had 14 children and only 9 were living. The American census provides a lot of information:

James Tighe born Oct 1853, emigrated in 1881 and was a naturalised citizen.
Margaret was born May 1855 and also emigrated in 1881, but is not listed as a naturalised citizen. However, I think, that when a man was granted citizenship it automatically extended to his wife. I am sure that someone else will be able to confirm if I right or not.
John was born Feb 1873, emigrated in 1888, and was a naturalised citizen.
Edward was born in July 1876 and emigrated in 1886 and was a naturalised citizen.
William was born in Aug 1878 and emigrated in 1886 and was a naturalised citizen.
Rose was born in Feb 1881, and was now married, and she emigrated in 1886. She is not listed as a naturalised citizen, but perhaps that is because she was married to one.
Maggie was born in Sept 1890 in Pennsylvania, Joseph in June 1891, Mary in Oct 1893, Elizabeth in Sept 1896 and Nellie in Sep 1899.

1910 Federal Census they are still in Philadelphia: Philadelphia Ward 2, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Roll: T624_1386; Page: 14A; Enumeration District: 0031; FHL microfilm: 1375399. The name has been transcribed as Light. This time Margaret says that she had had 11 children and 7 were living.

It looks like their daughter Elizabeth married Charles Cummines in 1915.

My guess is that to find further references in the American records you are going to have to get very imaginative with surname variations to account for transcription errors.
