    Pamela

Hopefully when you have had a chance to catch up with your brother all the information we found might help unlock this mystery for you.

I had a quick look to see what I could find about the younger generation of Perrys in case you are interested in trying to make contact and found the following:

James Albert Perry (nephew of Albert Fowler Perry) was born 21 Oct 1891 and his birth was registered in Portsea Island. He was in the Royal Navy in WW1, before that he was a news agent. The navy record is available on Findmypast.
He married in Portsmouth in 1915 Ellen M Jeneson. They had a daughter Rita who was born 9 Sept 1919, and who married Cyril J Craggs in 1941 in Bathavon, Somerset. They had at least one son. I won’t post the details here because he may well be living. However, if you search the birth index using both the surname Craggs and her maiden name Perry, you should find the record.
He died in 1955 in Portsmouth.

Nellie Perry (sister of James Albert) was born in 1894 in Portsea Island.
There is a married in 1914 in Portsmouth to a Percival H Wright, which is probably her, because although Nellie Perry is quite a common combination of names, I think the location and age suggests that it would be her. There is a death registered in Portsmouth in 1943 for a Nellie Wright born in 1895, which may well be her. There was a widowed Nellie Wright born 19 Oct 1893 living in Portsmouth in 1939 with an unmarried Violet L Wright born 29 Nov 1914.

Nellie E J Perry (daughter of Albert Fowler Perry) married Frederick E Hobbs in 1922 in Portsmouth. She died in Bristol in 1967. They look to have had at least a couple of children in Portsmouth.

Caroline Susan Perry (daughter of Walter Ernest Perry), other than her birth and appearance in the 1901 census I cannot find any other records. There is a 13 year gap between her birth and that of the next child, Walter Fowler in 1913. However, I have not been able to find her mother either in the 1911 census.

Hi, Megan, Thanks so much for this information as it helps us to try to bring our information forward from Albert F.'s generation. I will try to go down these paths and see if I can find anyone in these families who knows information about the great-grandparents' generation. This information will surely lead to something!

I forgot to mention that I found a reference to an Albert F. Perry who has a bit of a presence online. There are photos of him as an older man and artist. We know that my great-grandfather fell into the category of painter/decorator when he wasn't working in the army. So I wondered if this might be the same person. In his speech this Albert F. actually says "what this town needs is a good decorator" and it seems he was a teacher in a local technical college of either painting (as in home decoration) or as in art. But I wasn't able to find any statistics to figure out if this Albert F. (who lived on Franciscan Road in Tooting) is my great-grandfather. My father has similar features to this Albert F. Here are some links.

    Hi Pamela

It's been quite a while since you last commented on this post, but I have only just started researching the Hardy family.

You probably know by now, but Elizabeth (Hutley Perry) didn't actually marry Harold Herbert Hardy until 1924, at least 16 years after they started living together. I believe son Harold Leslie was definitely the son of Harold and not Albert Perry and may well have been the reason for Elizabeth and Albert splitting. To wait 16 years to marry suggests that she never divorced Albert and that she waited until she was a widow. Although I cannot find a matching death for Albert, I don't think he is likely to be the guy in your video link. It was dated 1950 so Albert would have been in his 80's by then but I suppose it's possible the guy in the video is older than he looks.
Elizabeth's son Clifford also used the surname Hardy at times.
The child who died, according to the 1911 census, was Ivy Eleanor Perry, died as a baby in 1906.
    Hope that helps.
    Jeanette
