    Default 72 squadron Royal Flying Corps/RAF WW1

I am currently trying to trace the descendants of air and ground crew of No 72 Sqn from WW1 in regard to the squadron's 100th anniversary in 2017. If anyone can help in this regard please send me a message.

    Hi
This is from the UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 but there is no recipient listed to receive the 94 pounds listed as his effects.
It is record number 51346 and there is a note in the body of the record saying refer to 36/40246
    H W Fon Poellnitz
    Death Date 11 May 1918
    Rank Major
    Regiment RAF & 2nd Lincoln

    On the CWGC site
    Herman Walter
Son of Arthur James Charles Robert McKenzie von Poellnitz of Cliftondown, The Crescent, Sidcup, Kent. Born Pergamino, Italy.

This site has his parents as Arthur George and Lena (which could be short for Caroline)but it only gives Herman as a child of this couple so no nearer to finding any descendants of Arthur.
However the parents of Arthur are given as Hans Karl Reinhard Christoph Hermann Ludwig Bruno Von Poellnitz and Eleanore Mary Elliot b: 12 MAR 1814 in Wolfelee,Scotland
    Their children
    Children

    Medal Roll Index card

    George Martin Lees
Regiment or Corps - Royal Garrison Artillery, Royal Flying Corps & Royal Air Force, RGA Asst PO

If you put 'Lt George M Lees MC' in to a search engine you will get an entry for this man on Wikipedia which gives his wife's name and says they had one son, name not given but looking on FreeBMD a possibility is in 1933 registration district Pancras.
He had a very interesting life.

Lt WM Thomas (Sir Miles Thomas)
On 2 June 1924 he married Hylda Church. They had a daughter in 1925 and a son in 1926. names in the Wikipedia article. Looking on FreeBMD at the birth registrations I think the son may have been known by the second of his middle names.

I can't follow either of these children through to a marriage - too many imponderables.

    Medal Award Roll
    D F Lapraik
    Rank - Lieutenant
Medal Awarded - British War Medal and Victory Medal
Regiment or Corps - Royal Flying Corps

    UK, Outward Passenger Lists
    D F Lapraik
Departed 16 Feb 1941 Liverpool, England
    Destination Port - Takoradi, Ghana
    Ship Name - Adda

He is one of many grouped as 'Air Force draft.'

His service record is online but doesn't name any relative with the same surname.
The only marriage I can find for a D F Lapraik on FreeBMD is in 1943 in the Kensington registration district when he would have been age 51 years old soif his wife was in the same age bracket no children to this marriage.
    Douglas Fairlie Lapraik
    born 10 Jan 1892
    British Royal Air Force
    Officers' Service Records 1912-1920

    UK, Incoming Passenger List
    Douglas F Lapraik
    Born c 1892
    Age 22
    Occupation Leather manufacturer.
    Departed New York
    Arrived 9 Jun 1914 London
    Ship Minneapolis
He may have been travelling with Arthur D Crisp age 44 as their occupations were bracketed together.

    Douglas Lapraik
Company Director of 21 Ormond Street Wantage Berkshire
    Born 10 Jan 1892
    Age 65
    Departed New York,
Arrived 6 May 1957 Southampton, England
    Ship Queen Elizabeth

There is a tree on ancestry that says he was born 10 Seymour Terrace, Hong Kong, and died 1981 Guernsey, Channel Isles
His mother was an Annie Maria Crisp so that explains the Arthur crisp he was travelling with.
Douglas had a brother Leslie Stewart Lapraik who was killed 20 Jul 1916 at Flanders

No other information on the tree but it is beginning to look as though he too has no direct descendants.

His father John Douglas Lapraik was born 23 Dec 1866 in Hong Kong and died 1940 in Battle, Sussex.

I have looked at his mother's sibling's descendants and am coming up blank there also for children for them. They all seem to be busy voyaging around the world, not procreating

This is all I can find at the moment for a Pitt initials J and A but they are back to front and the rank is wrong.
    A J Pitt

Regiment or Corps = Royal Air Force
    Regimental Number - 113781

I see that you have posted on various forums seeking descendants of these men.
It would be a good idea if you keep each forum up to date with what has been found so that we are not spending hours searching for information that has already been found.

Major O A Westendarp = Oscar Alfred WESTENDARP

The Great War forum has quite a bit of info on this man. https://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/fo...howtopic=23198

They have him marrying a Kathleen de Bray in 1918 but the name and middle initial for that man is Harold A. and the bride is registered with 3 different surnames! Narino, de Bray and Whitechurch.
