I spotted who I thought was him in 1911, class RG14, piece 34988, page 6. English census. Henry Edward Carroll born 1892 Norwich. Although he is a musician, trumpeter, in the Hussars. I see his father was a grandmaster so he could have followed his father's footsteps.

However next to his name it says absent.

Hello. Leslie Woodward Tipple was my grandfather's nephew and I would like to know where you found the information that he was married to Irene Mabel Coleman. Leslie's mother was my grandfather's sister. Thank you for any help.

Welcome to the British-Genealogy forums Pat.
I had to read all of this thread to find the reference to Leslie Woodward tipple and have now taken note of it and your query. Off the top of my head I have no idea where I found the reference but will look for it. it will have to be later today as I have an appointment with the lawnmower right now!

    Hi
It wasn't Irene Mabel Coleman who married Leslie Woodward Tipple but her daughter Dorothy Irene Avenell.
here are Dorothy and her mother Irene travelling to Hong Kong in 1821
    Mrs Irene Mabel Avenell
Age 28 Birth Date: about 1893
    Miss Dorothy Avenell age 8
    Departure Date 2 July 1921
Port of Departure - Liverpool, England
    Destination Port Hong Kong, China
    Ship - Ascanius
    Shipping Line: Blue Funnel Line
    Official Number: 131312
    Master - W Cope Lycett

The information I found re Irene's four marriages and the marriage of Dorothy to Leslie Tipple came from a tree on ancestry.com which is a pay per view site but some local libraries do have a free version.
One has to be wary of trees on ancestry as the information has to be verified just to be sure. The tree owner has a death for a Dorothy Irene Tipple as below

Dorothy Irene Tipple Death Age 91
    Birth Date 10 Aug 1912
    Registration Date May 2004
    Registration district Bournemouth
    Inferred County Hampshire
    Register Number D23D
    District and Subdistrict 427/1D
    Entry Number 198

There is a MS Dorothy I Tipple on the electoral register 2003 - 2010
    Residence Date - 2003-2004
Address Flat 1, 11, Saxonbury Road, BH6 5NB Bournemouth, Dorset, England

I don't know how the tree owner worked out Dorothy Irene Avenell married Leslie Woodward tipple who died in 1942 because because Dorothy is with her father George W Avenell as Dorothy I Avenell in the Electoral Rolls of 1954/1957 and 1958 unless she reverted to her maiden name after his death.

So who is the Dorothy I Tipple who died in 2004

Thank you for the reply. I am sorry for the delay which was due to eye surgery. I will let you know what I discover.
