I can only find one Wood in Tarbock in 1861 but he's unmarried servant.

Thank you Macwil. I have found John in the censuses. His parents were Peter Woods and Hannah. He moved on to Warrington by 1861. I was just trying to see if I could find out his mother's maiden name without the need for a certificate - hoping that the Lancs BMD would show it.

There is a marriage between a Peter Woods and a Hannah Woods 26 Apr 1837 Prescot, Lancashire on Family Search. They baptised a lot of children including a John 03 Dec 1843, Halewood, Lancashire.

Unfortunately the marriage does not appear in the civil registration index.

I checked Lancashire OPC and they have the following details:

Thank you very much Devonmade and to you again Megan. Yes they are the parents. It looks like Hannah was married previously to Peter's older brother Robert. But I can't find that 1st marriage record either to find her maiden name. It was pre registration.I have now realised the 2nd marriage was just before registration began also.... just by a few months. Hannah and Robert had children in 1833 and 1836. Thanks again for your time.
