    Default John Wood or Woods

    Hello,

I'm trying to find the maiden name of John Wood/s who was born on the 27th October 1843, Tarbock, Lancs. I have found his baptism in 1843, Halewood, but was hoping to identify him in the Lancs BMD to find his mother's maiden name if recorded. There are several John Wood/s listed but I was wondering where the registration district would have been for Tarbock births. Tarbock is near Huyton. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Hi Jeanie2 and welcome.

Tarbock is covered by the Prescot Register this link lists all Prescot parishes.

    https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/d...s/prescot.html

However a search produced no results. A further search of Liverpool found the following

    Births Dec 1843
    Woods John Liverpool 20 296

On the basis that the GRO registration district was Prescot, there are no registrations for either a John Wood or John Woods in 1843.

However, on the basis that he was born in late October his birth could have been registered in January 1844, and there are two registrations for a John Woods in the first quarter of 1844 in Prescot.

You can apply for a birth certificate on the basis that you do NOT know the volume and page numbers, and when you get to the second page of the form to fill in, you can enter his exact date of birth, which you have, and then you will only get the certificate you want.

The GRO website says "(If you aren't supplying a GRO Reference and don't know the exact date of event you can enter a year to be searched - we will search the specified year and one either side)"

Add his father's name as well, just in case they were both born the same day. Unlikely I know but stranger things have happened and it is a relatively common name.

It looks like LancashireBMD have not yet transcribed that district/year.

FreeBMD has both entries referred to in Megan's post above.
