    Default COLEMAN SIMMONDS -ESTHER JESURUN

This new thread should be read in conjunction with earlier threads on "Wolf Simmonds and Eve Jacobs" and the Jacobs/Simmonds lines.
Coleman Simmons 1815-1889 was the son of Wolf Simmonds 1774-1844 and Eve Jacobs 1779-1869. The roots of the Simmonds aka Simons aka Simmons are German. There are a range of records on Wolf Simmonds and his family which I have posted on.
Coleman Simmonds married Esther Jesrun born 1826 Netherlands Antilles Curacao. She was the daughter of Moises de Abraham Jesurun b Oct 10 1779- 14 July 1853 and his wife Leah de David Abraham Senior 1800-1880.
The gravestones of Moises and Leah can be seen on the Reed Collection USA online- Moises is buried Gravestone 13c4, Beit Haim Blenheim Curacao and Leah Gravestone 13c3 Beit Haim, Blenheim.
There is at least one record indicating that 2 oil paintings of portraits of Moises and Leah exist.
Coleman Simmonds became a naturalised citizen of Denmark 19 March 1840 - St.Thomas, Virgin Islands and appears in the 1860 Census on the island with Esther and their children. Copyright, US National Archives- Charlotte Amamile Houses 16-17 Commandant Street St Thomas Virgin Islands

    Default EMILY SIMMONDS-HENRY NATHANIEL ROBERTSON

Readers of this post on Emily Simmonds daughter of Coleman Simmonds and Esther Jesurun are strongly recommended to read a fuller record on Emily and her daughter Hedwig Baur nee Robertson which appears on the site Stolpersteine Hamburg- Copyright,Birgit Gun ( no specific date for the data but post 2000. This record is taken from personal testimony.
I have not put full data on the children of Hedwig because they may still be living.
Emily Simmonds appears to have gone to live in Hamburg with her parents. I will post data which clearly indicates that Coleman died in Hamburg in 1889.
Emily married Henry Nathaniel Robertson ( the surname maybe the Anglicised version ).
The data on both Emily and her daughter Hedwig is harrowing. Emily fearing transportation to a Concentration Camp committed suicide in March 1843 and on the 19 January 1944 Hedwig on receiving notice of deportation also committed suicide.
Hedwig had married a non Jew Gerhard Heinrich BAUR and had at least 3 children- Gerhard Henry b 1918; Emily Sophie b 1921; Margaret Herwig.
Margaret was transported in 1942 to Theresienstadt.
Hedwig divorced Gerhard a Director of Dresdner Bank and he died 1 November 1941 of cancer. Emily Sophie married Dr Warner LOHSE and died in 2000 Duren Rhineland.
The data base for Hedwig and her family records other family members one of whom went to Canada in the 1950s.
I have not verified any of the data having just discovered the website and my Jacobs and Simmonds cousins in the USA and South America in particular are welcome to contribute to the posts not least because they are writing the family history on our mutual lines.

Here is further data on the Simmonds/Hauer lines taken from snippets on Google Books in the publication"Judiche Familien-Forschung- vols 1-14, published 1924 ( apologies for any errors in the German transcription I made).

Follow up to #3 of this thread- Hamburg Birth Certificate Records- 12 November 1892- Vera Stephanie Elise SIMMONDS born 6 November 1892 Alt Rauistedt Registration District- father Julius SIMMONDS mother Agnes SIMMONDS maiden name MOELLER. The document is in German and a full translation is required. The original dob given in the passport application by Julius for Vera does not match the actual birth certificate record but there is no doubt that this is the same family.
There is a Hamburg Passenger Record for a Agnes Moeller age 23 single residence Gnogau West Prussia sailing from Hamburg 24 June 1885 on the Suevia for New York. Further evidence is required to confirm that this Agnes is the mother of Vera and Paul.
