    Default Margaret Hollis

Hi, trying to find out any information about Margaret Hollis.

Her father was a Leslie Hollis, who in the 1911 Census is shown as an 8 yr old son of Harry Hollis (b.1877) and Ellen (Helen?) Hollis (b.1878) and living at 29 Foljambe Road, Chesterfield.

I am particularly anxious to find out:

    1. Details of Harry's marriage to Ellen/Helen. Also Leslie's marriage. So far, I have found one between a Leslie Hollis and a Hannah Carson, but am not sure if that is the correct one!

    2. Date of Margaret's birth, and other subsequent information.

Margaret apparently emigrated to New Zealand (where I live), but I never met her or knew of her existence until quite recently!

There is a birth for a Margaret L Hollis, mother's maiden name Carson in March 1/4 1946 registration district Chesterfield.

I did find a shipping record for a Margaret Hollis to NZ but she travelled in 1946 age21 so not the above Margaret.

There is a Margaret Lesley Hollis at 1/34 Blacklock Ave, Te Atatu Auckland, an electrologist(?) in the 1978 Electoral Roll.
There is no other Hollis at this address although there are two males at different addresses to Margaret and each other.
She is at 2 Geordie Street Te Atatu in 1981, still an Electrologist and with her is a Hannah Hollis, retired. Speculatively this could be Hannah Carson who married Leslie Hollis and joined her daughter in NZ

There is also a Lesley Margaret Hollis on the electoral rolls but a different person with a family in the year I looked at.

    Good finds Wendy

My finds do rely on Margaret Hollis not marrying.

Ancestry's Select Marriages show the marriage at Holy Trinity Chesterfield on 27 August 1900 of a Harry HOLLIS, aged 23, father John HOLLIS, & Ellen REYNOLDS, aged 23, father John BONSALL, so it may be that Ellen was a widow when she married Harry.

I think the Te Atatu one seems likely! I'll check it out! Also, I don't know what an electrologist is or does, so some research on that is on the agenda!

    Mr google finds via wikipedia:-

Electrology is the practice of electrical epilation to permanently remove human hair. The actual process of removing the hair is referred to as electrolysis.
