I am in the process of switching from a Windows PC to Mac system. I've searched online for info on the best FT software but am becoming more confused the more I read. I don't really want to run Windows on my Mac. Would like to hear what others have experienced

I can only say that I make some use of Mac Family Tree, which is available from the Mac App Store, and possibly direct from the developers. I have not used any other specialised software, so I can't really say more than, it's worth trying - it depends on what you want it to do for you!

Have you looked at these family tree programs for Mac Here
The only one I have heard of for Mac is Reunion and always seems to get a big thumbs up from users when anyone asks about family tree programs for Mac. You can try it for free, with limited options but that will let you see the layout and features available before paying out the rather steep price.
RootsMagic has a version for Mac https://www.rootsmagic.com/mac/ although I must say I use RootsMagic on Windows at the moment and I am not a great fan.
MacFamily Tree is another and it has both a computer version and mobile versions for use on iPhones or tablets and they sync via ICloud if you want. Also seems to be cheaper than other programs for Mac

I'm another who uses MacFamilyTree. It is developed in Germany and clearly aims at the largest market for FH which is the US and therefore uses some idioms that are more related to US and LDS genealogy. My ancestors and relatives are almost exclusively English and most remained in England but I can work round the occasional Americanisms which are not therefore a major issue for me. The only thing I find really quirky is a virtual 3-D display called Virtual Tree. In earlier versions of the software this used to be the first page to load but nowadays it is just one of many views you can generate. You may find it more useful than I do; it's certainly fun even if it's not your favourite way to visualise your family tree.
