    First of all
    Ann born c1776 in Scotland
James Martin born c1777 in Esh Holme Northumberland

The above information is from the 1851 census.
The 1841 census was required to be recorded with the ages of any person over 15 to be rounded down to the nearest 5.

James states in 1851 census that he was born in Esh Holme Northumberland. Both Parloc and google maps say there is no such place. There is an Esh in County Durham which is only about 55 miles from Brampton Cumberland which is where James and Ann settled so that may be where James was born.

This is the 1841 census for John, his grandparents and his possible sister Ann. Remember they are together in 1851 also.
    Beck Brow, Brampton Cumberland
    James Martin age range 60-64
Ann Martin age range 65-69 Scotland
    Ann Martin 25-29 Cumberland
    John Martin 13 Cumberland
    Ann Martin 8 Cumberland

Just getting in to this and I have to leave it.

Ann born Scotland and wife of James is not going to be easy to find.
I did a basic search on ScotlandsPeople for a marriage for them (assuming they married in Ann's own parish in Scotland) Looked 1795 to 1815 and only one came up. Whittled it down to November 1813 which is a bit late for them to start having children.
I can't see a marriage for them on familysearch but did find this which could be one of their children named after James' mother.

    Burial
    Thomasen Martin
    Buried 6 Feb 1810
    Brampton, Cumberland

Finding other stuff but not a baptism of a daughter Jane to James and Ann.

My guess is the youngest Ann is the 25 year old Ann's child. On one family's tree they have it that the youngest Ann's is John's sister. But my gut is telling me she isn't.

Again there is no sign of a Jane anywhere. So my guess is she died in childbirth or at a younger age. It shows on John's birth certificate as the mother of John. But I have yet to find a death certificate on her. I figure Jane to be born around 1806ish range.

And I wish they would have put maiden names of people on the legal paperwork.

I do have a few different Martin lines in my tree. I have had many of that name come up in my DNA results but which lines are they? A million dollar question.

Thanks so much for the info and your help.

That age is about right if it is a sibling to Jane which I had mentioned that I thought Jane was born about 1806ish. And possibly that 25 year old Ann is a possible sibling to Jane. And the Thomasen Martin a possible sibling to Jane.

Now that my tree is getting much larger I will start checking out the Martin name on my DNA matches. Hopefully I can come up with something on any of the Martin lines.
