I have yet to check the JewishGen family trees data base on your lines.

    With regard to Isaac Levy Isaacs and his marrying out of the Jewish customs here is his marriage record for other researchers;
    Trinity Church Parish St.Marylebone Middlesex
    30 June 1845
Isaac Levy Isaacs full age bachelor Lawyer's clerk 23 Southampton Street-father Samuel Isaacs deceased
Jane Head full age spinster 25 Southampton Street -father William Head farmer
    Witnesses
    Thomas Cheshire;Eliza Devidge

I noted that when Thomas Isaac Isaacs was baptised his parents were living at Castle Street and Isaac was General Dealer.

Numbers of Ancestry.Co family trees have the mother of Isaac as Ann Helder.
This is the problem with trees having limited or wrong supporting data.

One major issue is that when Isaac married out of the Jewish customs it is likely he isolated himself from Jewish relatives. He doesn't appear in any of the Jewish records I hold or can access which presents difficulty tracing the lines further back.

Isaac Levy Isaacs on his marriage was a lawyers clerk which is interesting given the Levy/Jacobs links to the law as solicitors; sheriff officer; law clerk. Is there any evidence he was involved with them?
It raises the question as to why he became a general dealer and if so in what trade.
Do you have any data on his trade?
I further noted on the Ancestry.Co family trees that Isaac died 19 Dec 1872 from a fractured pelvis caused by falling between a railway carriage and the platform of Kings Cross Station- is that your own understanding?
    Hi Phillip

Regarding Isaac Levy Isaacs, his trade was as a general dealer, from 1846 until his death. Between 1860 and 1866 he twice described himself as a wardrobe dealer, once as a clothier and once as a dealer in clothes. Trying to pinpoint the trading premises of an Isaac Isaacs in the clothes trade is like looking for a needle in a haystack!

His death certificate (19 December 1872) states the cause of death to be "Fracture of pelvis by falling between Railway Carriage & Platform at Kings Cross Station". His inquest was reported briefly in several newspapers.

Also, I have applied to join the facebook version of British Jewry forum.

    Hi Steve
The problem with the Moses Raphael lines are the accuracy of the public family trees. So far, I have seen Ralph 1802-1848;Michael 1806-1885;Paul Simeon 1820-1895;Clara 1826-;Esther 1829-;Nancy 1810;Phoebe 1816;Jane 1823;Elizabeth 1828;Lewis?

I do have data on Michael Raphael but would need to track down the others and confirm the relationships.

Where do we stand on the current data going back to Ann? There are now a lot of names.

    Hi Mark and Steve
There are some new additions to the data on Ann Levy-Samuel Isaacs see Cemetery Scribes Photos of Tombstone and inscription.

I am looking in detail at the Myer Solomon lines as per his will and the Chancery Court case 1844- Harris v Davis. This case clarifies the main relationships particularly when linked to the S Harris letter 1897 previously posted on. Phoebe Solomon may have married Michael Abraham Levy 1765-1823 - see his will Synagogue Scribes NA 711.

I do not know if any of these lines relate in anyway to Ann but am also seeing if they relate to my Levy/Jacobs.

    Hi Phillip

I am currently working through the thread on the Turnpike Levy's. So far, I cannot see any connections to Ann.

    Hi Steve
I have been trying to locate Phoebe Levy sister of Myer Solomon. There is a Chancery Case 1844 Harris v Davis which involved a dispute between the devisees in the bequests left by Myer Solomon in his will. In the court case reference was made to Myer Solomon dying 'without issue' and Phoebe Levy having no relationship to Moses Moses or the other parties. However, the other parties were related. Moses Moses died a bachelor 16 November 1840.

Todate, I can't easily locate Phoebe Levy in the 1841 Census given she was still alive in the 1844 Court case.

Elizabeth Davis,Polly Moses,Elizabeth Harris named in the will were sisters of Myer Solomon's wife.

I have not checked fully the relationships but noted that in 1851 Census HO107 2052 34 10 Birmingham Polly Moses was living with Henry Harris a framemaker and his wife Elizabeth born Flanders a British Subject.

I would appreciate any help tracking down further Phoebe Levy and her sisters- Elizabeth died 14.12.1874 Southampton aged 74 - she was the mother of Rev Samuel H Harris the writer of the 1897 letter to the Jewish Chronicle in which he named his Harris,Davis relatives plus Collins and Simeon Kensington Salaman- his late wife's uncle(her mother's brother).

The problem is tracking down these lines to see if Ann links in any way to them.

    Hi Phillip

I am still working through the Turnpike Levy's but so far I haven't seen any connection to Ann.

One thing that I have come across is that Cemetery Scribes shows Catherine Levy, daughter of Daniel Levy and Amelia Jacobs, with a birth date of 28 December 1831, matching the New Synagogue birth record on SynagogueScribes. The birth place and father's name match to the Turnpike Daniel Levy, but the 1851 and 1861 census records indicate that Catherine was born about 1843. General Record Office online birth index shows an entry in the December quarter of 1842 in SAINT GEORGE THE MARTYR SOUTHWARK for Catherine Levy, mother's maiden surname Jacobs. I can't find the 1842 Catherine in the SynagogueScribes birth entries.
I wondered if the 1831 Catherine died, and the 1842 child was named for her dead sibling, but I can't find a death for the 1831 Catherine. She doesn't appear in the 1841 census. Have there been any known transcription errors in compiling the SynagogueScribes database?

Another issue - Angelina, another daughter of Daniel, born 6 August 1840 according to SynagogueScribes, but her birth appears to have been registered in 1838?? GRO Reference: 1838 S Quarter in OF SAINT GEORGE THE MARTYR SOUTHWARK Volume 04 Page 123, Name: LEVY, ANGELINA, Mother's Maiden Surname: JACOBS.

    Hi Steve
The Levy/Jacobs line are those of Carol Freeman in the USA. I don't know what records Carol holds but have you checked the records on the Jacobstree. I need to take a look myself. I can't remember what I posted on about Daniel Levy with regard to the Levy recorded by Robert Ward. These posts were lengthy from memory.

Well done for spotting the differences in data. I am unsure as to why there are errors.

    Hi Steve
A small note- In his will Lewis Levy 1857 left a bequest to a Catherine Isaacs spinster. No other details beyond her address or relationship if any. He is one of the Turnpike Levy.

    Hi Phillip and Mark

Below is a posting that I am about to place on the ISAACS - LEVY - GARCIA thread, but thought that I would make you aware of it here.

Regarding Rachel Isaacs nee Davis, wife of Joel Isaacs mentioned in previous posts, I have three dates of birth for Rachel:
1764, based on the find a grave entry, “RACHAEL Wife of JOEL ISAACS WHO DIED APRIL 29 1846, Aged 82 Years”
1771, based on death notices, Bury and Norwich Post 13 May 1846, “Norwich, DIED, On Thursday last, aged 75, Mrs. Isaacs, widow of the late Mr. Joel Isaacs, of this city” and Norfolk News 09 May [Saturday] 1846, “On Thursday last, Mrs. ISAACS, widow of the late Mr. Joel Isaacs, aged 75 years.”
1781, based on the 1841 census entry referenced in earlier posts.
The newspaper death notices suggest that she was of Norwich, but don't give her burial place. The “find a grave” entry refers to a headstone in the Colby Gate Jewish Burial Ground, Great Yarmouth.
The 1841 census entry refers to Isaac Isaacs in Gaol Street, Great Yarmouth, whereas the death records refer to Joel Isaacs. The London Gazette, Publication date:14 June 1831, Issue:18813, Page:1188 mentions that Joel is sometimes known as Isaac Isaacs.
On the face of it, Joel or Isaac Isaacs is the same husband in each case above. But I am puzzled by the 17 year spread of birth dates for Rachel and two different death dates, possibly in two diferent places, Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
I am not actively pursuing this conundrum at the moment as the balance of probability is that I am not a blood relation of Joel Isaacs. My main reason for this posting is that I don't think I have previously seen any reference to the newspaper death notices and hope they will prove useful to someone researching this line.
