    Default Jutsum Family

    Hi!

I am researching my Grandmother's (Joyce Jutsum) family which came from South Molton in Devon. Her father was Arthur Jutsum, son of Richard Jutsum and Mary Anne Yendell. Her mother was Ellen Coles, second wife of Arthur.

Any information on any Jutsums in the area would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Krys

    Hi Krys
Do you have any dates or census info for the family? There is a Richard George Jutsum age 28, unmarried, living with his family in the 1901 census at Bishops Nympton, Devon.

    Default Census Info

Thanks for all your replies. I should have mentioned that I already had access to all the census info for 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881.

I guess I am really looking for other researchers of the Jutsum family and more personal information about the families and any decendent of the families.

    Thanks again

In White's 1850 Directory of Devonshire. Richard Jutsum is mentioned as being a farmer in Noth Molton. Nothing new for your information, but a bit more flesh on the bones.

    Krys,

I guess we're all looking for those extra bits that give our ancestors a little character and personality.

To add to what kmdward has given you, JUTSUMs are also mentioned in White's History, Gazetteer & Directory of Devon, 1878-79:

-- F. JUTSUM is a member of the school board in Bishop Nympton Parish.

-- Richard JUTSUM of Grilstone in Bishop's Nympton Parish is a relieving officer and registrar of births and deaths for the South Molton Union Workhouse.

-- Fredk JUTSUM of East Avercombe and Joseph JUTSUM of Grilston [sic] are listed as farmers in Bishop's Nympton Parish.

And in Kelly's Directory of Devon, 1889:

-- Frederick Jutsum is listed as farmer at Grilstone and Joseph as a farmer at East Avercombe. Richard is still a registrar and relieving officer for Witheridge district and living at Grilstone cottage. Both Richard and Joseph are listed as registrars for Exmoor sub-district, Richard as a deputy. Richard also sits on the school attendance committee as an attendance and inquiry officer.

-- Edwin Jutsum of Seven crosses, Tiverton, is listed as a Councillor for West Exe Ward with a note that he will retire in 1889.

    Regards,

    Trish
